It is simply a router that connects mobile (cell) phones to their carrier networks, using existing internet resources that you already have in your store.
It has the following benefits to your store and its patrons:
No. Phones with compatible carriers connect automatically—no action needed. You can offer “free Wi-Fi” through the hotspot if desired, but we don’t always recommend it (see next question).
Yes, it can create an open Wi-Fi network with a login page, but we usuallydon’t recommend it because:
Low risk. All phone traffic is routed securely through a VPN tunnel to the carrier’s network. For extra safety, we can place it on a separate network (VLAN).
No. It uses Passpoint 2.0—a facy way of saying phones connect automatically using their SIM card, just like switching cell towers.
Only if Public WiFi is enabled. By default, we do not set this up unless you really want this option. If you ever should change your mind, we can turn it on or off remotely, just call Handy IT at 513.549.3535
Absolutely! The pennies per day it costs to run saves dollars per day in various environmental costs:
Usually not. Connection happens automatically. Some Androids with certain carriers may need to select the network before their phone connects.
The name will appear as "Helium," a secure AP. Depending on the phone's particular carrier, it may appear as "AT&T Passpoint" or another carrier-specific identifier. If you chose to offer open WiFi, the open network will also appear as "Helium Free WiFi"
No. It auto-selects the least crowded Wi-Fi channel.
No. But if your internet is slow, we may need to upgrade it or limit the hotspot’s speed. Call us—we can adjust settings or help increase your ISP speed at no cost to you.
Yes—data is encrypted via the phone’s SIM, just like on regular cell networks. You get general usage stats (number of devices connected, amount of data used), but no personal info like names or numbers.
No. Passpoint 2.0 ensures smooth handoffs. If issues occur, call us—we have tools to fix it.
No. Connection is controlled by the phone and carrier. Some Android users can disable auto-connect; iPhones usually cannot.
No. But if you have a data cap, it could be an issue. We will assist in upgrading your ISP plan at no cost if needed.
No. Carriers pay Helium to use your hotspot as network offload. You’re just using your paid internet—perfectly legal.
After 1–2 weeks, carriers decide whether to route users to your hotspot. Only Helium Mobile and Google Fi users can connect at first. If no carriers adopt it, we’ll troubleshoot or remove it and cover any expenses for ISP upgrades, if made.
Only users from adopted carriers can connect. There’s also a limit of 100 simultaneous users. You’ll see which carriers are active in your monthly report. Also, very old phones may not support Passpoint 2.0 connections.

No. They’re charged normally by their carrier. Unlimited plans stay unlimited.
Phones switch back to cellular—if signal is weak indoors, calls/data may drop. We offer backup internet and power solutions to prevent this.
You’re usually paid around the 2nd week of each month for the previous Calendar month’s usage. Options include check or PayPal. Payouts are based on actual earnings of the hotspot, split per your agreement, and paid to you by Handy IT.
No—you never owe us. If it doesn’t start to earn after 2 weeks, we’ll try to fix it. If it fails due to location, either party can end the agreement. We’ll remove equipment and cover any ISP upgrades you were charged for, if applicable.
It depends on traffic, carriers, and location. Earnings vary monthly. We only place hotspots where we believe they’ll pay off. Handy IT began this program in November 2025 and is still collecting earnings data—we’re in it to win together.
